These works were in the Sculpture in the Gardens 2019-20, Auckland Botanic Gardens Indoor exhibition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These Unique<\/strong> works are the first in this series of works which reference the art historical<\/strong> subject of the vessel<\/strong> and its relationship to the bird<\/strong>. Also ideas around emptiness, space, containment<\/strong> and the feminine principal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made for 2018 NZSOS Woman’s Refuge Exhibition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This work speaks to the shifting ecosystem<\/strong>s, crisis among species<\/strong> for survival<\/strong> and the need for adaptation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can also be seen as a metaphor<\/strong> for our own inner growth<\/strong> and renewal<\/strong>; dealing with change<\/strong>, upheaval <\/strong>or crisis<\/strong>; healing<\/strong> and allowance<\/strong>. I recreated my original ‘Katydid<\/strong>‘ 2002, using her alien<\/strong> and yet somehow feminine form, curling inward like an embrace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of my bronzes are black, because there is no distraction<\/strong> to the form and it adds a solidity<\/strong> and foundation<\/strong> to the work. The gold, by contrast lifts<\/strong> and lightens details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
